THE THREE-TIME defending champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) will try continue their reign of terror in the high school division of the 16th Cesafi juniors basketball tournament when they battle the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars today at the Cebu Coliseum.
After losing to the University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters in their third game of the season, the Magis Eagles have brought their game to a whole new level. They have won five straight games by an average of nearly 40 points and stand atop the heap with a 7-1 (win-loss) card.
They will seek to remain on the winning track today behind their embarrassment of riches at every position: a loaded backcourt led by league MVP Jed Colonia, Travis Mantua, Patrick Yu, Justin Javelosa and leading scorer, Andrew Velasco, and a frontcourt that boasts of Christian Manaytay, Errol Pastor and the much-improved Alex Visser.
In other high school games, UC will try to snap out of their two-game slump but must hurdle the dangerous Don Bosco Greywolves. The University of San Carlos Baby Warriors, meanwhile, will take on the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers.
In the lone collegiate game today, the UC Webmasters aim to keep their campaign afloat when they battle the winless Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats. UC is tied with USPF for the second worst record in the league at 2-7 while CIT-U has not won in seven tries.
