THE JINS of the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors showed the way in last Saturday’s Cesafi men’s taekwondo tournament at the Insular Square Mall in Mandaue City.
Coach Glenn Lava’s USC team collected three golds while the University of San Jose–Recoletos (USJ-R) snared two.
USC’s Aldrein Abrio, Hermes Lawrence Elpa and Kim Jay Gallo ruled in the finweight, lightweight, and welterweight classes, respectively, to reaffirm USC’s reputation as team to beat in the college division.
USJ-R also put up an impressive performance with Leandro James Amang defeating USC’s Benedict Suico to win the gold in the flyweight class.
His teammate Janel Sayson also delivered as he topped the bantamweight category.
Meanwhile, the University of Cebu (UC) dominated the women’s category, tallying four gold medals to stay above USJ-R, which has three.
Gold medalists for coach Michael Realista’s UC team are Maria Carmela Coran (fly), Aila Marie Lepon (feather), Rizza Marie Gimenez (welter) and Ciara Ramirez (middle).
USJ-R’s winners are Charisse Labiste (fin), Maria Ashera Dayuday (bantam) and Micah Marie Mission, (light).
