One of six Zika cases recorded in the country occurred in Cebu City, the regional Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday.
Five other Zika cases are recorded in IloIlo City and Laguna province.
Regional DOH Director Dr. Jaime Bernadas said they investigated and received reports on the case since the other day.
As posted on the DOH official website, Health Secretary Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial said all mentioned cases had no travel history to other countries. The first Zika case recorded in Cebu City occurred in 2012.
“All presented with skin rashes accompanied by joint pains or fever or conjunctivitis and are expected to have recovered by this time,” Sec. Ubial said as posted on the website.
DOH sent quick response teams for more information and support to affected areas.
Those who contracted the virus display symptoms like fever, rash, and conjunctivitis, joint pain, muscle pain, headache, and vomiting that lasts for two to seven days.
The disease is transmitted by the bite of an infected female mosquito, the same mosquito that transmits dengue.
Pregnant women who are more vulnerable are advised to avoid mosquito bites especially during day time and undergo consultations when symptoms are detected.
Bernadas encouraged the public to clean their houses and remove stagnant water.
