Power brows

WHAT is the key feature of your face? While most would say it is the nose, eye or mouth, it’s actually the eyebrows that play a crucial role in one’s “face value.”

Beyond acting as a filter against dust, dirt and sweat, the brows have a strong social significance for “emotional expression as well as facial recognition,” reports Yahoo! Health.

Our obsession with arches is finally validated with factual evidence in a recent study conducted by the University of Lethbridge in Canada. The findings? Brows are more important than the eyes if you want to make a lasting impression. Even if you wear no make-up, sporting a well-groomed, perfectly shaped pair of brows will make you look
great. On the other hand, all the make-up tricks won’t help if your brows are poorly shaped or look like it was drawn with a Sharpie.

Now, what if you are not blessed with full, even eyebrows, or perhaps you over-plucked them?

Re-creating them through pencil and brushes takes a really long time and some days you just can’t get it right. Frustrating and time-consuming, right?

Don’t fret, here is a brilliant new alternative.

It’s called EYEBROW EMBROIDERY or MICROBLADING.

What is it?

A specially designed blade deposits pigments (there are many different shades) under the top layer of your skin. Although similar to tattooing, this new technology allows for single brow hairs to be drawn in an almost 3-D fashion, making your new brows look perfect when you wake up in the morning.

Is it permanent?

Consider it semi-permanent. It is said to last for 2 to 3 years before fading and then it can be retouched.

Is it painful?

The procedure lasts for about two hours. Most of that time is spent drawing each hair for the perfect shape and position. Before Microblading, a topical anesthesia is applied and the level of discomfort can be likened to that of threading.

Are there risks?

Adverse effects and reactions are very rare as long as you have it done by a reputed professional who uses the best tools (there are great quality differences), sterilizes all equipment and uses disposable blade-heads. This is not something you want to do “home service” or by someone you don’t know and trust. If you have experienced Keloid scarring, it is best to consult your doctor before this procedure.

How much does it cost?

In the U.S. well-known eyebrow artists will charge from USD700 up. Here in the Philippines prices should be in the range of P10- to P15,000. Just like any surgery, you don’t want to shop for the lowest price but the best results. Ask the person to show you previous work in photos (and make sure it really is their work). Our make-up and eyebrow expert, Margie Zenz says: “Your eyebrows are uniquely YOU. The style, shape and color value define your personal style and should not be transferred from your favorite star. Celebrate your own beauty.’

Ah, to sleep 15 minutes longer in the morning, swim and gym with perfect eyebrows!
