Tabal inspires young athletes in Davao City

CEBUANA Olympic marathoner Mary Joy Tabal continued to inspire the young generation after a visit to Davao City last weekend.

Around 100 kids and young athletes joined a free running clinic headed by the 27-year-old multi-titled marathoner, who also graced the opening ceremony of the Blue Knights Track Open competition at the Ateneo de Davao University Fr. Martinez Sports Complex track oval in Matina, Davao City.

Tabal, a member of the Motor Ace-Kawasaki Racing Team, was joined together with her long-time coach John Philip Dueñas during the event in Davao.

The Blue Knights Track Open is a track and field competition in Mindanao for the athletes from public and private schools of Davao City, Davao del Norte, Koronadal and South Cotabato.

Tabal said she was happy to be able share her experiences to kids in the southern part of the country.

“It was very nice because the kids were eager to learn from me,” Tabal said. “They really listened and asked questions. I was so happy to have been able to see and speak to them in person.”

Tabal recently announced that she will be skipping the 40th National Milo Marathon Visayas Leg this Sunday at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC). She is the reigning grandslam women’s champion in the National Milo Marathon.
