AUTOLAB 1999 remained as the lone unbeaten squad in division B of the PLDT SME Nation-Alfredo Gothong 21st SHAABAA Cup Basketball Tournament as it outlasted Batch 1997, 55–50, last Wednesday at the Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue, Cebu City.
The two teams headed into the match armed with identical 9–0 (win-loss) cards.
However, at the end of it all, only AutoLAB emerged unscathed as it rode on the solid performances of Philip Yap and Arthur Tam to bag its tenth straight victory with just one more game left in the elimination round.
Yap had 12, Tam added 10 while Jeremy Huang chipped in nine to help AutoLAB overcome a 34–42 deficit at the end of the third period.
Walter Ong was the lone player to reach double figures for batch 1997.
In other matches, Choobi Bay Crab and Shrimp 1991 overcame GEF 1998, 42–39, to claim its eighth victory in 10 games and solidify its hold of third place.
Theogene Lim paced the winners with 17 markers.
Core Pacific 2000 also authored a 43–36 win over batch 1992 as Serg Al Go Bui had a dozen to propel the former to its sixth win against four losses.
Batch 1992, on the other hand, dropped to 3–8.
In division C, Prince Warehouse 2006 and batch 2014 ousted their respective foes in the quarterfinals.
Prince Warehouse’s John Paul Ong scored 15 to push his team past Radar 2005, 47–42, while Lorenz Yap fired 21 markers to power batch 2014 over batch 2015, 57–54.
