SWU Cobras gun for victory No. 2 in CESAFI volley

After chalking up their first victory a few weeks ago, the defending champions Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras hope to sustain their winning momentum as they go up against the Cebu Institute Technology- University (CIT-U) Wildcats today in the CESAFI men’s volleyball tournament at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main Gym.

SWU has had an ugly start to the season after suffering a straight sets loss to arch rivals the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) in the tournament’s opening day.

SWU however, was quick to rebound from that loss as they handed the USC Warriors their first defeat of the season in their next outing thanks to the solid efforts of reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) Dave Cabaron.

Cabaron singlehandedly brought his team back into the game after being down by four to USC, 16-20, scoring five straight hits during the Cobras’ 11-5 run.

But the Cobras would need someone to step up today aside from Cabaron against a CIT-U side bannered by the pesky defensive duo of brothers John Mark and Joemarie Pacquiao.

The SWU-CIT-U matchup is set at 3:30 p.m.

Meanwhile in the boys division, USP-F and SWU will face each other for the solo lead in Group B while USC hopes to break into the win column against CIT-U.

Also in boys action, defending champions USJ-R looks to solidify their grip of the Group A lead as they lock horns with the comebacking Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-ADC) Magis Eagles while DBTC shoots for their first win against CEC.

In the lone girls match, the defending champions SWU Baby Cobras hope to start their title-retention bid on a winning note as they tangle with the winless CEC Baby Dragons.
