AROUND 20 medical and drug testing centers including insurance companies that offer services to transacting clients at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City, again voiced their opposition to the transfer of LTO.
Dr. Danilo Dionson led other stakeholders to ask Looc barangay officials to facilitate a meeting with Mayor Luigi Quisumbing so they can ask the mayor to consider the plight of stakeholders who would be affected by the transfer.
Earlier, Mandaue City Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna promised to give the LTO lot to Mandaue City Jail to expand the jail facility.
Cebu 6th District Rep. Jonas Cortes also offered the LTO lot to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology when he was still mayor of Mandaue.
The city jail currently has 1,374 inmates, way above its total capacity of 400 inmates.
The concerned stakeholders recommended for the Mandaue City Jail to use the BIR lot instead.
They also said that the city government has lots in Barangays Basak, Labogon and Casili too, where inmates can breath fresh air.
Dionson, who owns a medical clinic across the LTO-Mandaue office, wrote a letter to Engr. Claro Lumagas, officer-in-charge of Motor Vehicle Inspection System (MVIS) in Barangay Subangdaku, where the LTO is supposed to be transferred, inquiring if there are persons given concessions for insurance offices, drug testing centers inside the MVIS compound. Engr. Lumagas, however, said he was not aware of any persons who were given concessions.
