THE University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers continued their blazing form this season after blasting the Southwestern University (SWU) Baby Cobras, 25-15, 25-17 yesterday and snatching the first semifinals ticket in the CESAFI boys volleyball tournament at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main Gym.
USPF, who has been turning heads lately with their air-tight defense, opened the game by dropping a 16-7 bomb and won the opening set with ease.
The Baby Panthers continued to push the pedal to the metal in the next set starting the second with a 17-14 lead before exploding with an, 8-3 run to close out the game.
USPF mentor Cecil Jotojot believes their improved conditioning during the offseason played a huge role to their impressive start this year.
“Ako na gyod gipa-condition ang akong mga players before this season. Sa una man gud kay dili ko mutuo anang conditioning,” Jotojot said.
Also in juniors play, the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Baby Greywolves broke into the win column by crushing the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Baby Dragons, 25-12, 25-18 while in girls action, defending champions SWU opened their title-retention bid with an overpowering, 25-3, 25-3 massacre of CEC.
Meanwhile the game between the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) and the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo De Cebu (SHS-ADC) which was cancelled yesterday due to USJ-R’s intramural games, will be played today at 8 a.m.
