THE 1985 Legends made it three in a row as they captured the title in Division 1 of the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference President’s Cup with a clinical 63–54 win over the 1993 Dragons on Sunday night at the USC North Gym.
The Legends gained a head start against the Dragons with a 66–57 victory in Game 1 on Saturday and then, proceeded to finish off their opponents on Sunday, thanks to another heady performance by league MVP, Lou Regidor, who tallied a whopping 36 points.
Jone Sepe also backed him up with 10 as Batch 1985 continued their dominance of Division 1.
The Legends won the Summer League last year before claiming the Sinulog Homecoming Cup earlier this year.
Division 3
In Division 3, there was no stopping Enrico Llanto and the rest of the 2002 Lions as they roared past the 1999rs, 76–59, in Game 1 of their best-of-three finals series.
Llanto, a former two-time MVP of the Cesafi, imposed his will on the 1999rs defense all game long and finished with a whopping 36 points to give the Lions a 1-0 series lead. But he was not alone as he got plenty of help from Paul Tagalog who added 16 markers and Rafael Alcoseba and Jose Ruiz who combined for 17.
Michael Alcarde tried to carry the fight for the 1999rs but his 30-point effort went for naught.
In Division 2, the 2008 Flyboys are within a victory away from repeating as champions as they defeated the 2011 Elevens, 68–60.
The series is a rematch of last year’s finals, which the Flyboys won via a sweep.
Now, the Flyboys are a breath away from inflicting even more heartbreak upon their rivals as Nilton Otida, John Cabellon and Miko Santos formed a deadly three-headed offensive monster.
Otida scored 19, Cabellon had 15 while Santos tallied 14 to carry the scoring cudgels for the Flyboys.
Wily guard Dave Guardiario led the Elevens in scoring with 19.
