Better to experience Sinulog on foot

Bring your umbrellas and prepare for a long walk because today’s Sinulog celebration could get rainy due to tropical depression Agaton.

Leave your vehicles and go on foot to avoid traffic congestion, said Rafael Yap, Cebu City Integrated Traffic Operations Management (Citom) executive director.

Plan routes ahead of time since roads along the six-kilometer parade route will be closed to traffic at 5 a.m. he said.

The route includes Osmeña Boulevard, Imus Road and General Maxilom Avenue. Vehicles can park for free in the South Road Properties (SRP).

The crowd usually starts to build up at 2 p.m.

With a crush of people expected, leave young children below 12 years at home rather than risk having them caught in the street crowds, said Alvin Santillana, executive director of the City Risk Reduction Management Council.

Joy Tumulak, Citom operations head, said parade participants have to take their positions before roads close at 5 a.m.

Dancers who show up late will just hold up their contingent, he said.

As an extra guideline, Sinulog participants were told in Friday’s final briefing to bring their own trash bags and clean up after they perform so that visitors and residents can enjoy a clean city.
