A residential house with a scrap iron shop in Lucio Lopez Drive, Barangay Calamba, Cebu City caught fire past 10 a.m. yesterday.

Based on initial investigation by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire may have started from the room of Jefferson Uy, the nephew of house owner Normalinda Uy Villegas.

SFO2 Ronald delos Reyes said they were looking into the possibility that an electric fan inside Jefferson’s room may have caused the fire. But they still have to verify it since Jefferson’s room was locked during the incident.

The 15-minute fire that started at 10:23 a.m. and put under control at 10:38 a.m. caused an estimated damage of P20,000.
Delos Reyes said they didn’t have a hard time controlling the fire since the house is located along the road, making the firetrucks to easily penetrate the area.

House owner Villegas, on the other hand, said she also has no idea as to the cause of the fire. She was in the ground floor of their house when the fire broke out.

The fire affected Villegas’ two-storey house, which has a junk in the first floor.
