The Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines, Asia’s premier triathlon race, will open its on-site registration today starting at 7 a.m. at the Social Hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol.
Aside from the on-site registration, there will also be an online registration for foreign triathletes as well local triathletes not based in Cebu.
Unfortunately, the woman behind the race, Princess Galura who is the general manager of Sunrise Events Inc. (SEI) will not be around to entertain walk-in registrants since she is currently in Barcelona, Spain to watch Ironman Barcelona.
However, Galura will be live on Skype’s video call to greet the triathletes. The Cobra Ironman 2017 race is slated on Aug. 6 still at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa.
Around 300 local triathletes are expected to enlist today.
Galura expects slots to be gobbled up in minutes like last year when the 2,900 slots for the Asia Pacific Championships held last Aug. 7 was sold out in an hour.
Expected to boost the registration is the organizers’ decision to limit next year’s number of participants to just 2,600. The race will feature a 1.9k swim, 90k bike and 21k run.
The onsite registration es expected to have a festive mood since Cebu’s heritage, festivals and delicacies will be highlighted. Registrants will have free breakfast. A brand new Ironman hooded sweater also awaits those who register early.
Registration fee is pegged at $275 for both foreign and local individual registrants and $350 for team relay.
The CEO category, exclusive for chief executive officers, presidents or managing directors of companies with an annual earnings of not less than $5 million, has a registration fee of $1,500. SEI is putting up a community slot for late enlistees with a $550 fee for individual racers and $650 for relay contenders.
Various discounted Ironman merchandise will also be displayed.
