The Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines remains the top selling triathlon race in Asia after all 2,600 slots allocated for the Aug. 6, 2017 race were gobbled up in 22 minutes yesterday.
Princess Galura, the general manager of the organizing Sunrise Events Inc. (SEI), expressed her gratitude for the massive support extended to the race from both local and foreign triathletes.
The 2017 race will still be held at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa.
Yesterday’s registration opened at 8 a.m. and after only 22 minutes, all the 2,600 slots were already taken. Some 500 triathletes availed of the onsite registration at the Social Hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol.
Some registrants though complained of difficulties in enlisting due to heavy traffic in the race’s website.
The race features a 1.9k swim, 90k bike and 21k run same as last August 7’s Asia Pacific Championships wherein 2,900 triathletes from 43 countries competed.
Galura who was in Barcelona Spain to witness the Ironman Barcelona, said yesterday’s sold out registration will encourage them to do their best for next year’s race. “We are deeply humbled by the results of the registration so we will work harder,” said Galura.
“Thank you world for making Cebu another record breaking success in 22 minutes.”
