Green Lancers, Warriors try to advance to Cesafi hoop semis

Games today:
Cebu Coliseum
5 p.m. – UV vs USPF (College)
6:30 p.m. – USC vs UC (College)

THE CESAFI goes back to business today as the quarterfinals of the men’s basketball tournament kicks off with the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and the defending champions University of San Carlos (USC) hoping to advance to the Final Four today at the Cebu Coliseum.

The third-seeded Green Lancers are looking to put an end to the season of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers while the fourth-seeded Warriors need only a win to dispose of the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters.

Both feats will be easier said than done as both the USPF and UC are expected to go all out in their bid to keep their respective campaigns alive.

For the Webmasters, their season rests on the shoulders of their speedy backcourt of Justine Dacalos and Gileant Delator, who, when locked and loaded, have proven to be a handful to contain.

Also expected to hold their ground is UC’s frontcourt led by recent Slam Dunk Contest winner JR Puerto and Fil Culango, who tonight, have the unenviable task of facing USC’s reinforcement – the 6-foot-9 center Scotty Ntumba.

USC, on the other hand, will seek to advance to the semifinals and move a step closer to gaining a shot at defending its crown, in spite of its rejigged roster nearly devoid of the core from last year’s title-winning squad.

UV will also seek to gain some momentum especially after an up-and-down second round where it went just 3-3 (win-loss) after starting the season 5-1.

USPF will be gunning for an upset but must get fantastic games from All Stars Lyndon Colina, Roy Quiachon and Gilbert Sastrillas.
