Policemen in Cebu City will soon be receiving their increased incentives from the city government.

At the same time, they will also automatically qualify for the City Hospitalization Assistance and Medicines Program (Champ), said Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak.

“One of the important highlights during the meeting with the mayor and Director Doria is that all policemen serving in Cebu City can now avail of Champ,” said Tumulak, who is also the deputy mayor on police matters.

Under the Champ, those qualified are entitled to a total of P35,000 in benefits from the city per year. Of the amount, P25,000 is for hospitalization, P5,000 for medicines and P5,000 for laboratory procedures.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Senior Supt. Joel Doria, and Tumulak had a meeting yesterday morning.

He said it was also agreed that the city will already start releasing the increased incentives for policemen and officials starting August this year. Tumulak said a total of 1,478 police personnel, which was the data as of last year, will be getting the bigger incentives.

Police officers assigned in all police stations and units under the CCPO will get P4,000 as monthly allowance from City Hall.

Police officers with ranks of inspector, senior inspector and chief inspector will get P6,000 monthly. The two deputy directors will get P8,000 each while the city director will get P10,000.

“The instruction of the mayor to the police was to strengthen security in Cebu City especially for the police that there should be foot patrol,” Tumulak said.

He clarified, though, that new police officers or those hired within this year won’t be included in the incentive since the budget for this year was based on the number of policemen as of last year.

Tumulak explained that from January to July this year, the city has been giving a smaller amount for the incentives at around P2,500 since the city was still using its 2015 reenacted budget.

Starting August until the end of 2016, he said the higher incentives will be given since the basis then is already the approved 2016 annual budget.
