USJ-R, Ateneo meet for semis slot

Somebody’s 0 will have to go.

Last year’s runner up, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles and the streaking University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars put their immaculate record on the line today as they go for each other’s scalp with the first semifinals ticket as prize in the continuation of the CESAFI girls volleyball tournament at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main Gym.

Both teams tote identical 3-0 (win-loss) cards and a victory today would push the winner to the Final 4 round.

The Magis Eagles, once the league’s unenviable doormat, picked up from where they left off last year as they continue to shock their rivals, most recently the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers whom they routed, 25-11, 25-21.

USJ-R for its part hopes to exorcise the phantoms of 2015 where they won eight consecutive games, only to collapse in the semifinal round.

The USJ-R and SHS-ADC tiff is set at 9 a.m.

Also in girls play, the winless USPF Baby Panthers hope to keep their tournament hopes alive as they battle the defiant USC Baby Warriors.

In boys play, the USPF Junior Spikers look to end the eliminations on a strong note as they take on the Cebu Institute of Technology – University (CIT-U) Wildkittens while DBTC clashes with the hapless SHS-ADC Junior Spikers.

Meanwhile in the collegiate men’s action, CIT-U tangles with UV while USJ-R goes up against the struggling University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters who are yet to win a game after four tries.
