USPF nips USC in cesafi football

THE UNIVERSITY of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) shocked former champions, the University of San Carlos (USC), 1–0, yesterday in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) football tournament at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).

USPF’s Heinzal Destura scored a goal at the 25th minute of the first half to pull off a surprising victory against the favored USC team.

USPF now has nine points in the collegiate division to lead the rankings while USC has four points.

In the other collegiate match, defending champion University of Cebu (UC) and University of the Visayas (UV) settled for another draw, 2–2.

Their first encounter also finished off with a scoreless draw. Both teams have six points.

In the secondary division, defending champion Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) extended its winning streak to four and remained unbeaten after defeating USPF, 2–0.

Clyde Nitulla scored the first goal in the 42nd minute while Joshua Castro made it 2–0 by scoring in the second minute of the match extension.

DBTC now has 12 points, followed by Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) and USPF both with seven points.

SHS-AdC routed USC-BEd, 4–0, in the other game.
