AT LEAST 600 contractual employees in different industries in the Central Visayas are now regular employees after their employers heeded the Labor Department’s call to rectify the employment status of contractual employees and end the practice of contractualization or “end of contract” employment.
These data were logged in the agency’s records since it started its campaign against contractualization or “endo”, said Director Exequiel Sarcauga of the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (Dole-7) during last week’s the launching of One-Stop Center for OFWs in SM City Cebu.
Sarcauga said that after conducting a series of advocacy campaigns and labor orientations with different companies in the province in September, 600 employees out of over a thousand contractual workers in Central Visayas had already been regularized.
“This is for both bilateral and trilateral employment arrangements mainly in the manufacturing and service industries. These employees are coming from 20 companies that complied voluntarily,” the official said.
Sarcauga added that the accomplishment had also been the result of the efforts of their Labor Laws Compliance Officers (LLCO) who has been conducting thorough assessment on every company and establishment.
“The instructions to end illegitimate employment practices in all firms are getting stiffer and clearer as we go full blast on this campaign,” said Sarcauga as he also cited the achievement alongside the President’s 100 days in office.
Eliminating the culture of endo is one of Duterte’s pillar campaigns which his administration promised to strongly enforce in the first 100 days alongside combating illegal drugs and streamlining government services to make them more accessible for all regions across the country.
