A new born baby boy was placed inside a sack and abandoned in an open field of a farm last Sunday in barangay Lindogon, Sibonga town in southern Cebu.

The baby, who was placed in an incubator in Carcar district hospital where it was brought after it was found, was doing better, said Mildred Lauron, head of the head of Municipal Social Worker and Development Office (MSWDO) of Sibonga when asked about the condition of the baby yesterday.

SPO1 Jaime Mendoza, police investigator of the Sibonga police station, said that while police were securing the area for the arrival of the image of the Our Lady of Lindogon from Cebu City last Sunday, they were informed about a baby in a sack about 50 meters away from the gate of the Lindogon Shrine.

Mendoza said that the baby, which was crying was still covered in blood when it was found.

Josefina Dequiño, a resident in the area, who was cutting grass and gathering grass to feed her animals, saw the baby and informed the police about it.

The child was turned over the care of the MSWDO.

MSWDO’s Lauron said Dequiño who accompanied them in bringing the baby to the hospital, told them that she was interested in adopting the baby.

Lauron said that Dequiño even helped in shouldering the medical expenses and supply of milk for the baby.

Lauron, however, said that Dequiño would have to undergo the process of adoption.

Meanwhile, SPO2 Mendoza said they were still looking the for the mother, who abandoned the baby near Lindogon Shrine.
