Rains will persist in Cebu this week as the low pressure area (LPA) is expected to enter the country anytime today.
Evangeline Tolentino, weather specialist of the Mactan office of the state weather bureau Pagasa, said if the LPA develops into a tropical storm or cyclone, it will be named “Karen.”
“The LPA is expected to bring light to moderate rain and northern Cebu will be mostly affected since it’s near Samar where the LPA will enter,” Tolentino told Cebu Daily News.
As of 5 p.m. yesterday, the LPA was spotted 610 kilometers east northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.
Based on initial data, the LPA may develop into a tropical cyclone that will also affect the eastern side of Leyte, central and northern Luzon.
The rains will occur in the afternoon to evening and the LPA is expected to exit the country on Sunday.
Tolentino said the public is advised to take precautionary measures as floods and landslides are still expected.
As of 5 p.m. yesterday, Pagasa Mactan recorded 143.5 millimeters of rainfall. The normal average of rainfall for October is 201.8 millimeters.
