THE Bureau of Customs office in Cebu continues to surpass its revenue targets with a P1.759 billion collection for September.

According to BOC-Cebu records, this is a 23.63 percent increase from the month’s target collection of P1.423 billion.

Acting Cebu Customs Collector Rey Francis “Koko” Holganza said that they could only do their job well and as best as they could despite the bad rating given by the Social Weather Station on the Bureau of Customs in its latest survey.

“We in BOC-Cebu were given a target, and records will show that we have been doing our job well for the last nine months,” Holganza said.

Holganza was not only referring to the September surplus of P336 million but also to the P763.9 million surplus in the nine-month collection or the Jan. to Sept. collection.

According to BOC-Cebu data, the office collected P13.714 billion in nine months which surpassed the nine-month revenue target of P12.95 billion or a 5.9 percent increase.

He said that the factors that helped them achieve their collection surplus included the revenues they collected from importation from both power and fuel sectors.

He also cited the Cebu Customs employees’ efforts to meet the collection targets of the port.

“How I wish this simple accomplishment of the men and women of BOC-Cebu with support of all stakeholders will also merit, if not the same prominence as the survey, even a small space in media reports,” Holganza added.

Aside from exceeding its revenue target collections, the Port of Cebu is also among the seven billionaire ports out of the 17 collection ports in the country in terms of Customs collection from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30 this year.

Holganza said BOC Port of Cebu is also the only port in the country that is able to surpass and exceed its target collections.

The other billionaire ports in the country are Manila International Container Port (MICP), Batangas, Subic, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia), Port of Manila and Limay (Bataan).

Holganza said that billionaire ports are those with an assigned collection target of at least P1 billion per month.

“It is hard to argue with surveys and perceptions. BOC Port of Cebu will simply try to do its assigned task and perhaps pray that future surveys, perceptions and media reports will be kinder to us,” Holganza said.
