THE Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu City governments are making preparations for possible emergencies that might occur due to the effects of typhoon Karen and another possible typhoon which is expected to enter the country on Monday.

Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing, who met with his department heads and the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office last Friday, said he had tasked the DRRMO to monitor danger zones such as in the river banks, coastal areas, those living near riprapped walls and mountain barangays for a possible landslide and warn those dwellers not to be complacent and to be vigilant.

“We just would like to remind each one of us to make necessary preparations like a contingency plan, check equipment, manpower, evacuation centers and others,” said
Quisumbing.

Felix Suico has also identified seven barangays prone to flooding which they included in their monitoring.

In Lapu-Lapu city, Mayor Paz Radaza also met with her Department Heads and discussed preparations on the coming typhoons.

She has tasked Andy Berame, the CDRRMO officer to monitor and check with barangay captains their mode of communications and remind the village chiefs to monitor their constituents especially those living in coastal barangays.

Fishermen must be warned of bad weather condition persists as it will be difficult for them to be rescued in the midst of strong winds.

“Naa man mi gisunod nga protocol in cases like this og nakahibalo na sila sa angay nilang buhaton,” says Berame. (We follow a protocol in cases like this, and they already know what they should do).
