Strong winds and waves stranded nine vessels at Cebu City’s ports.
The Philippine Coast Guard Cebu station said 2,097 persons were unable to leave for their trips.
The passengers of MV St. Francis Xavier and MV St. Pope John Paul that came from Cagayan de Oro and were supposed to be headed to Manila had to stop over in Cebu due to the bad weather.
Philippine Coast Guard-Cebu station Commander Agapito Bibat said they barred the two vessels from leaving the ports of Cebu due to the typhoon signals raised in Manila and the rest of Luzon.
Stranded passengers have opted to stay on board the two vessels while they await PCG clearance to proceed to their destination.
Aside from the two vessels, PCG also barred seven other ships—the MV Lapu Lapu Ferry 8, MV Gloria 2, Mv Lapu-Lapu Ferry 1, MV Maria Helena, LCT Melrivic 1, MV Super Shuttle Ferry II and MV St. Braquiel—from leaving piers 1 and 3 in Cebu City and the Hagnaya port in San Remegio town in northern Cebu.
But unlike the two vessels from Cagayan de Oro, the passengers of the seven other vessels chose to return home after learning of their canceled trips.
