Pagara to battle tough Ghanaian in PP39 card

After a painful defeat last July in the United States, ALA Boxing Gym’s stalwart, “Prince” Albert Pagara returns to the ring against a tough foe in the undercard of Pinoy Pride 39: IBF World Jr. Flyweight championships on Nov. 26 at the Cebu Coliseum.

The 22-year old Pagara will face WBA Pan African Super bantamweight champion Raymond Commey, 29, of Accra, Ghana in a 10-round non title showdown.

Pagara who was on the verge of landing a world title shot had he survived veteran Cesar Juarez of Mexico last July in San Mateo, California. The fight lived up to its hype as both boxers went on a brutal exchange round by round until Pagara was knocked out in the eighth round.

That was pagara’s first ever loss as a proressional after piling up an impressive 26 wins and 18 knockouts.

Commey recently won over fellow Ghanian Raymond Ansah last April in Accra,Ghana by TKO. He lost to Chinese Xiaojun Qiu for the WBA international super bantamweight title in Lu Zhou, China last February by unanimous decision.

It will be a tough come back for Pagara since Commey has 16 wins with nine knockouts. Commey has a knockout percentage of 47 percent.

Pagara’s older brother WBO International super lightweight champion Jason “El Niño” Pagara will face a former world champion Jose Alfaro of Nicaragua also in the undercard.

The card’s main event main event will feature the IBF interim world light flyweight title fight between Milan “El Metodico” Melindo (34-2,12KOs) versus Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr. (31-4-1,16KOs) of Thailand.
