Three Cebu universities to vie in Philippine University Games

ATHLETES from the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) will put their skills on full display as they vie in the 21st Philippine University Games (UniGames), which starts today in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

Leading the list of Cebuano participants are the reigning beach volleyball champion Southwestern University (SWU). Both men’s and women’s teams of the Cobras are aiming for their second consecutive UniGames beach volleyball titles.

The men’s beach volleyball squad will be spearheaded by reigning Cesafi men’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Dave Cabaron and Jewel Cabahug while the women’s team will be manned by Cesafi women’s MVP Floremel Rodriguez and Therese Rae Ramas.

Also representing Cebu are the University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors, who will shoot for the indoor volleyball title.

A championship in the UniGames for the Lady Warriors will serve as a fitting farewell gift to their team captain Debbie Mae Gamboa, who has stepped up big time in her final year in the league by leading USC to the Cesafi semifinals this season.

The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars will be the third Cebu representatives in the meet as they look to rebound from their fourth place finish in the Cesafi men’s basketball tournament when they battle it out with 13 other teams in basketball.
