THE Cebu Provincial Board approved a resolution urging all towns and component cities of the province to prohibit dumping of garbage in rivers.
The resolution authored by PB Member Miguel Antonio Magpale cited the state’s constitutional mandate to protect the environment for its constituents.
Magpale said in his resolution that the province’s rivers are mostly inundated by garbage dumped by settlers.
“Similarly, some vendors throw their waste and other types of pollutants in the river,” he said.
All towns and cities in the province as well as the governor’s office will be furnished a copy of the resolution.
The resolution came weeks after the Bojo River, located in the western town of Aloguinsan, was recognized as among the 100 “sustainable” destinations in the world by the international award giving body Green Destinations.
Aloguinsan River shared this honor along with the Niagara Falls in Canada, Cape Town in South Africa, and Jackson Hole and Yellowstone Park of the US.
