BO-PK allies on hand for seniors cash aid

ALLIES of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña who are planning to run in next year’s barangay elections were on hand to facilitate yesterday’s distribution of cash aid to seniors in various venues.

In Barangay Sambag 1, about 1,350 senior citizens claimed their cash aid at Aznar Coliseum along Aznar Road, Urgello Street, Sambag 1 at 7:30 a.m. yesterday.

Sirwen Aguinas, one of the staffers who facilitated the distribution, said they allowed incumbent barangay officials allied with the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK) and those running under the party to help in the distribution.

Barangay Councilman Giovanni Aznar was assigned by Mayor Tomas Osmeña to head the cash aid distribution.

Among the recipients was Maria Lumagsao, who was accompanied by her daughter Maribel Lumagsao-Bontilao.

Agunias said Sambag 1 barangay chairman Lemar Alcover was cooperative and even helped them.

Alcover is the son of Councilor Jun Alcover, who is with Team Rama.

Leah Japson, Department of Social Welfare and Services chief, said yesterday’s cash aid distribution to senior citizens ran smoothly and there were no major problems encountered.

She said those who were unable to claim their cash aid should have their representatives inform the disbursing officers their address so it can be delivered to them at their homes. “They should show their ID cards,” Japson said.

Senior citizens are given 10 days to claim their cash aid at City Hall.
