Kitchen employee nabbed for drug possession in jail

A kitchen employee was arrested for intercepting drugs inside the Cebu City Jail at 8:30 am Monday.

Officials of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) arrested Josephino Oliverio after learning that he intercepted the delivery of drugs to an inmate.

The inmate, Reynaldo Torrefiel Jr., a 29-year-old resident of Barangay Ermita, Cebu City, was found with 25 small sachets and one medium-size plastic containing what is believed to be shabu. Two cellphones were also confiscated from Torrefiel Jr.

Jail supervisor Alex Salutan noticed something suspicious while Torrefiel Jr. was being inspected at the cyclone area, where inmates of the City Jail are tap-searched.

JO2 Salutan then asked for Torrefiel Jr. to be taken into the desk-officer area, an enclosed area where strip searches are done.

When Torrefiel Jr. took off his shirt, the tips of the small sachets of shabu were peeking out of his brief. When asked to strip all of his garments, police discovered a medium sized pack of shabu and two cellphones hidden in Torrefiel Jr.’s crotch area.

Torrefiel Jr. was arrested in 2013 and is facing drug possession charges. When asked where the drugs came from, Torrefiel Jr. pointed to a kitchen staffer named Josephino Oliverio, 28 and a resident of Barangay Baliang, Danao.

Oliverio has been a kitchen staffer of the Cebu City Jail before it was moved to the hilly Barangay of Kalunasan in 2007. He stopped being a kitchen staffer to the Cebu City Jail in 2012 when he got married.

Oliverio was hired again earlier this year by the mess officer of the Cebu City Jail Kitchen.
