THE father-and-daughter tandem of Edwin and Queenie Cablao made waves in last Sunday’s October Monthly Tournament of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (Cepca) held at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Edwin Cablao, a Cepca member, automatically earned a slot for the grand finals scheduled in December despite placing second to his 18-year-old daughter Queenie, who emerged on top of the tournament but was only a guest competitor.

Edwin and Queenie both finished the five-round Swiss system tournament with 4.5 points apiece but the latter had a bigger tie break score of 13 against former’s 12.5.

University of San Carlos’ KC Morala rounded off the top three competitors by scoring 4.0 points.

A total of 26 players joined the tournament.
