IT’S now an entirely different ball game for Kapuso actress Andrea Torres as she bares more skin and takes on a more daring role on TV.
During her recent visit to Cebu together with “Alyas Robin Hood” lead star Dingdong Dantes for a Kapuso mall tour, Andrea got to talk to the Cebu press about the challenges of portraying Venus and what she looks forward to in her career.
“Dapat mag-explore ka talaga at maging open sa lahat ng bagay kasi ‘yun nga yung binigay sa akin na role, na-enjoy ko,” Andrea said.
Andrea plays the role of Venus, a feisty woman who trains Pepe De Jesus (Dingdong) into becoming the urban legend, Alyas Robin Hood.
The actress recently drew mixed reactions when she wore a two-piece bikini in one of the episodes.
“That’s my role and that’s what it requires from me. Wala naman akong magagawa, di ako pwede pumili ng costume. Ginagawa ko lang talaga ang work ko,” Andrea shared.
But Andrea said there’s more to Venus than just being a sexy character. In fact, she’d like to focus more on her being a brave woman, making her different from the previous roles she had.
“Kinabahan talaga ako kasi sanay ako sa api at shy roles. Ito ‘yung never ko talagang nagawa pero wish ko gawin. Madaming kaba syempre kasi di ko alam kung paano tatanggapin ng mga tao, but learning their good feedback parang di ata ako ready i-let go ang character ni Venus,” she said.
How is she handling criticisms, especially from those who bash her online?
“May ibang comments na medyo rated SPG, jokes that bothered me. Pero I learned that most people love to bash you and get you to reply, and that’s when the comments will come non-stop,” she said.
When asked what was her most difficult scene so far, Andrea recalled that it was the controversial “two-piece” scene, where she got anxious about the viewers’ possible reaction.
“Nakakailang lang talaga,” she admitted. This despite the fact that she already graced the cover of sexy magazine FHM two years ago. Prior to that, she had to woo her father so that he’d allow her to the sexy pictorial.
“Matagal talaga na ligawan ang nangyari, sabi ko lang talaga sa kanya na it’s about time. At naging okey din naman siya as long as classy pa rin ‘yung dating. He’s a professor of a university kasi,” Andrea shared.
Her being the youngest daughter among five siblings was probably the reason why Andrea’s father was very protective of her, but she eventually had to convince him to allow her to take her career to the next level.
Looking ahead, the Kapuso actress hopes to try on more complex characters, like a superhero or a less glamorous woman.
