At least half of the about 300 applicants were granted scholarships by the province for this school year’s second semester.
Provincial Gender and Development officer Heddah Largo said that while they wanted to accept more students under the Paglaum scholarship grant, budget constraints prevented them from doing so.
She said they might take in more scholars especially when some of them would graduate in March.
Paglaum is a scholarship program of the province for students who cannot afford to finish their education.
Each scholar will receive P10,000 per semester to pay their tuition in any state university or college and P1,500 in monthly allowance.
The scholar only needs to maintain a passing grade of 75 percent.
