NETIZENS and online trollers are warned to stop posting false information that can cause panic to the public.
Senior Supt. Eric Noble, Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) director, gave this warning after he learned yesterday about a false report circulating on social media about kidnapping incidents in two towns in the south.
Noble said that the reports are not true.
“Wala namang katotohanan iyan, wala kaming na-receive na reports na ganyan,” Noble said.
He said that they had never received reports and had never responded to any kidnapping incidents in Santander or Oslob.
He said that he was referring the Facebook post of a netizen to the Philippine National Police Cybercrime Unit and wait for their recommendation on what action to take against these people who spread false information.
He assured the public that these towns have been highly augmented with police operatives.
On Saturday night, a post claiming that two persons in Oslob and three persons in Santander were abducted by an Abu Sayyaf group started circulating on Facebook. The post further read that policemen confirmed the presence of the terrorist group in Dalaguete, lurking around to prey on their next victims.
Noble advised the public to validate reports first.
“Wag na nating patulan to. Wag na nating lagyan ng malisya ang mga bagay na hindi totoo. Sana we stick to the truth (Let us not pay attention to these kinds of malicious and false reports. Let us stick to the truth),” said Noble.
Dalaguete flies
Meanwhile in Dalaguete town in southern Cebu, residents turned to humor and the social media to show their problems on flies swarming in some parts of the town and the security advisory issued by the US Embassy on their area.
One netizen posted in his Facebook page … “Mga langaw man ang niatake diri sa amoa ug dili ang grupo sa mga terorista …”
An official said that officials had met last week to find a solution to the problem.
Dr. Joan Riveral, Medical officer of the Department of Health in Central Visayas, when informed about the flies in Dalaguete town, encouraged the public to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and
to observe proper hand washing and proper sanitation.
