TEAM MB Scalar Travel Service Inc., Derivative and the Lycans got off to winning starts after they blasted their respective foes at the start of the Homeboys Basketball 3rd Randall Cup 2016 at the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) lower court last Saturday.

Bong Frayon dropped a three-pointer at the buzzer to lead MB Scalar of Benedict Bandala and Jim Alima to a 45-42 win over Team Uratex of Lindsey Leal.

Derivative of James Ylaya bucked a depleted lineup and stunned defending champion CY Boys All of Manny Earl Ching, 101-91, while the Lycans of Charles Aballe nipped Homeboys Avenue of Paul Cabungcag, 69-65.

MB Scalar led for most part of the game but Uratex came back and even took a one-point lead in the dying seconds before Frayon delivered the game-winning triple.

Frayon paced MB scalar with 10 markers. Ian Mingoy chalked up 15 markers for Uratex.

JR Edano led Derivative with 37 points anchored on 11 three-pointers.

The tournament is held in memory of league founder Randall Joseph Prado. It will follow a single round-robin format in the elimination round. The top four teams will advance to the knockout semifinals with the survivors moving to the championship round.
