A retired policeman who was earlier named a drug protector by President Rodrigo Duterte was shot dead by his close friend inside the ex-cop’s residence in Barangay Vito, Minglanilla town, 14 kilometers south of Cebu City, at past 9 a.m. today.
SPO1 Ronilo Nabua, who retired from the police service in 2008, suffered a gunshot wound on his head.
He was rushed to the South General Hospital in Naga City, which adjoin Minglanilla, but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, said PO3 Alfredo Pagaling of the Minglanilla Municipal Police Office.
Pagaling said their investigation showed that Nabua was about to enter his living room from the outside when the suspect, identified as a certain Rebak, showed up and shot him on the head using a .45 caliber pistol.
The assailant also shot Dario Cellote, who was repairing Nabua’s vehicle. Cellote was rushed to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City where is now now being attended for unspecified bullet wounds.
Pagaling said the suspect had lived at Nabua’s house for about a month.
“We have yet to determine what prompted the suspect to kill SPO2 Nabua,” Pagaling said. N
Nabua became a policeman in 1986 and availed of optional retirement on Dec. 31, 2008.
He was among the police officers who were either retired or in active service who were identified as an alleged drug coddler by President Duterte in August.
