A rising urban clothing and printing shop, Threads and Needles, closed their first year anniversary with the launch of Coalition Exhibit: Photo Series at their branch at the Raintree Mall last Oct. 15.
The exhibit featured the works of four local photographers: Zach Villegas, Kenneth Asprer, Rj Galgo, and Nathan Archival. Photographs taken by these artists were printed on the different merchandise on sale. The artworks submitted were free as the shop and the artists’ collaborative effort in showcasing the local art scene and artists here in Cebu.
Coalition Exhibit was also launched to highlight the shop’s direct-to-garment printing process where digital designs are printed on the garment in a few minutes using a modified inkjet technology. This method of printing is fast and efficient, and the shop is usually sought after by walk-in customers who want to have customized apparels or have their own artworks get a quick, high-quality print.
“We are the first one to employ this printing tech here in Cebu,” said Gladys-Gil Areopagita, organizer of the event. “It’s literally a we-print-while-you-wait kind of service,” she added.
Ken Cuizon, the marketing head of the company, was the one who came up with the concept of Coalition Exhibit. As an artist himself, he said that the aim of the company is not just to print and sell tees but also to build a community that celebrates local artists. “The exhibit is theme-based. We feature one art medium like painting on an exhibit, and a different one [like photography] on the next,” he added.
Threads and Needles accepts single and bulk orders and offers printing services on mugs, pillowcases and bags. Price starts at P250, P350 for white garments and P450 for black garments. Shirts are 100% cotton. They also offer Chromolux painting on aluminum canvass. Price starts at P350.
