AFFECTED residents in four sitios of Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City expressed relief as floodwater already subsided.
The residents were already walking on dry ground after being besetted with flood for more than a month due to continuous rains.
Mayor Paz Radaza said they used suction pumps to remove the floodwater as an immediate solution. But she said they were coordinating with the Cebu Light Industrial Park to create a drainage in the area as a long-term solution.
Eduvio Villamor Jr., 50, one of the residents, said he hoped the city government would lend their suction pumps to them so they could use it every time their area gets flooded.
“We hope that flooding here will soon be addressed permanently,” he said in Cebuano.
Radaza also tasked the City Health Office to check on residents for possible skin diseases due to the flooding.
The City Health Office revealed recently that they distributed free medicines to the residents and reminded them about dengue prevention and to get rid of possible breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Some residents in Barangay Agus also complained about the water coming from the pond of a nearby subdivision, but this was already attended by the city government.
The contractor was just waiting for the pond to dry up before pouring a cement on it to stop the flow of water to the lower grounds.
Barangays Buaya and Kalawisan were also reported to have experienced flooding, which is now being addressed by the City Engineering Office.
