THE University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars hung tough late in the game to eke out a 25-12, 21-25, 14-25, 25-20, 15-12 triumph over the defending champions Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras and clinch the first finals spot in the CESAFI men’s volleyball tournament Saturday morning at the University of San Carlos (USC) Main Gym.

With the game knotted at two sets apiece, SWU seemed headed for the victory when it raced to an 8-5 lead in the fifth set. But the Jaguars roared back behind Roj Pacio, who scored three straight hits in a crucial 10-4 run that helped USJ-R escape with the big win.

USJ-R, which currently leads the round-robin semis with a 2-0 (win-loss) card, hopes to keep its immaculate record intact when it takes on the University of the Visayas (UV) in its last semis assignment tomorrow.
