A MOTORCYCLE driver died after he was run over by a school bus past 9 a.m. yesterday in Barangay Looc, Lapu-Lapu City.
JanJan Camay, 31, of Barangay Babag 2, Lapu-Lapu City, was declared dead on arrival at Lapu-Lapu City Hospital after he sustained serious injuries in the head and body.
Camay, who was driving his Suzuki motorcycle on his way to Barangay Babag, overtook a school bus loaded with students near the City Central School when the accident happened, said PO3 Romelio Adolfo, traffic investigator of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Traffic Division.
According to Adolfo’s investigation, as Camay overtook the bus, the handlebar of his motorcycle clipped the handlebar of a tricycle on the opposite lane driven by Jerwin Maneha, 34, of Barangay Canjulao, causing Camay’s motorcycle to crash. He was thrown off his motorcycle and landed on the path of the rear tires of the school bus.
The school bus, loaded with students from Advance Institute of Technology in Sangi Road, Barangay Pajo, had come from Muelle Osmeña wharf where the students welcomed the image of the Our Lady of the Rule arriving at the wharf from a fluvial procession with a cultural dance.
Bus driver, Andres Seno Jr., 51, of Sanciangko Street in Cebu City, and the students in the bus, were shocked when they learned that their bus had ran over a man.
Adolfo said that they detained Seno and Maneha and their vehicles were impounded at the Lapu-Lapu Traffic Office.
Seno said he would be willing to settle and shoulder the damages and burial expenses of the victim.
Adolfo also said that they would likely release the tricycle driver since he was in the proper lane.
