Threats amid suspension of transpo services

The regional Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-7) will ask the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) to provide security detail after one of their enforcement officers received a threat last week.

LTFRB Regional Director Ahmed Cuizon said he and his enforcement personnel will meet Cebu City police chief Senior Supt. Joel Doria today to discuss their problem.

“We are helped by the police during our operations but there is a need to further strengthen police assistance to our anti-colorum activities now that there are clear threats,” Cuizon said in a Facebook chat yesterday.

Last Friday, LTFRB-7 conducted an anti-colorum operation and seized a colorum Grab unit, a black Suzuki near Basilica del Sto. Niño in Cebu City.

This was the second Grabcar unit impounded at Land Transportation Office (LTO) after LTFRB chairman Martin Delgar announced the suspension of the application for transport network vehicle services (TNVS).

A day after, a text message from an unregistered number was received by the traffic enforcer whose identity is being withheld for security purposes.

“Threats could come from any of those affected by our enforcement efforts, including TNVS operators whose social media comments against us are becoming more vile,” Cuizon said.

Cuizon said he also advised all LTFRB-7 personnel especially their enforcers to take precautionary measures.
