SEVEN physicians and two dentists joined community leaders and volunteer employees in a medical mission recently organized by Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI) and Solid Earth Development Corp. in Barangay Bugho, San Fernando town, southern Cebu.

A total of 388 residents trooped to Bugho Elementary School to avail of free medical services. This is the third mission conducted by the two companies since November 2008 that attended to 500 patients and May 2012 that served 380 residents.

TCPI Senior Vice President Takashi Miyashita and SEDC director and technical adviser Hiroyuki Sakakibara led the employees of both companies who volunteered for the mission.

The doctors attended to the 144 adults with various illnesses ranging from hypertension, gastric hyperacidity, myalgia (body pains), common cough and colds, fever, urinary tract infection and refraction errors.

They also addressed cases of common cough and colds, skin wounds and dental caries among the 146 children, according to Mitzie Almira Carin, SEDC human resources and administration manager.

Carin said volunteer optometrists from EyeTune Optical gave free spectacles to each of the 83 patients with refraction errors.
