Motorists told: Avoid roads to Capitol on Sunday

MOTORISTS are advised to avoid roads leading to the Capitol Grounds and roads from the Capitol along Osmeña Boulevard leading to the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral from noon until late evening on Sunday.

The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) gave this advise as they anticipate thousands of devotees to attend the Mass celebrating the solemnity of Christ the King which also marks the end of the church’s liturgical year.

The church has already announced that no Masses would be celebrated in all parishes in Metro Cebu, which includes parishes in Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Cebu, Talisay cities starting from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Their will only be a Mass at the Capitol Grounds to be celebrated by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma said that the divine celebration will usher the attendees into a deeper appreciation of and increased devotion to the Holy Eucharist.

“We likewise culminate the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy later being graced by the experience of God’s compassion and availing of many pastoral initiatives that we have undertaken to highlight this powerful message of God’s mercy,” he said.

After the Mass, a procession will be held with the Blessed Sacrament to be brought to the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral from the Capitol grounds.

The roads near the Capitol grounds, where the Eucharistic celebration will be held, will be closed to traffic starting noon. Among those which will be off limits to vehicles are the stretch from Don Gil Garcia Street up to Villalon Drive. The stretch of Osmeña Boulevard, from the Cebu Capitol to P. Burgos Street near the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral will also be closed to traffic.
