Employers across the country have heeded President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to stop contractualization.

In his keynote speech at the Labor Summit on Friday in Cebu City, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said that as of November 11, at least 24,776 workers nationwide have already been regularized.

“This means that the companies have started to realize the workers’ rights,” Bello said.

Bello added that the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will continue to put the rights of employees as their priority.

DOLE has been conducting labor-related talks around the country. To date, they have conducted a total 179 labor consultations.

The Labor Summit is held at Golden Prince Hotel and Suites attended by labor leaders and organizations from Visayas regions including Regions 6, 7, 8 and the Negros Island.

Bureau Labor Relations (BLR) Director Benjo Santos Benavidez said the summit will tackle issues on security of tenure issue, informal sector, industrial policy, taxation, labor standards and wage.
