CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said yesterday that he believed that the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is moving in the right direction in their fight against illegal drugs.
Osmeña said this after PDEA-7 filed complaints against all elected Ermita barangay officials at the Office of the Ombudsman for failing to coordinate with them in a recent drug operation in the area.
Osmeña said there are barangay officials who tolerate and protect drug activities, and they should be accountable for their action.
“It’s impossible for barangay officials to say that ‘I don’t know what’s going on.’ It is your barangay,” he said.
He claimed that the slain top drug lord Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz was believed to have had a safehouse in Barangay Ermita.
“Jaguar has been living in that same barangay for 15 to 20 years. How come he has not done anything to get Jaguar?” he said.
He said that when money is involved, many government officials, policemen and even elected officials could not resist it.
