Drug Awareness and Prevention Week kicks off with a fun run

At least 566 individuals including drug surrenderers joined in the five-kilometer Color Fun Run and Walk in Cebu City early Sunday morning.

Cebu Provincial Anti- Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO) Chief Ivy Durano-Meca said that the activity is part of Drug Awareness and Prevention Week celebration.

“We wanted to start the week long celebration with something that every enthusiast will want to join. We invited different sectors for the fun run,” she told Cebu Daily News.

Aside from drug surrenderers, personnel from the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and some capitol employees also participated in the activity.

Before the five-kilometer Color Fun Run and Walk started, the participants joined a six-minute zumba at the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds.

The five kilometers cover the area starting from the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds going to Gorordo Avenue area.

This is the second year that a Drug Awareness and Prevention Week has been celebrated.

Other activities lined up for the week-long celebration include the launching of institutionalized programs designed by the different sectors on Monday at the Grand Convention Center.

On Tuesday, an Anti-drug alliance Summit will also be held at the Grand Convention Center.

“We are working to a drug free Cebu and we are bound to community level. We are expecting 650 participants representing different sectors of government and local government unit (LGUs) to attend the summit,” she said.

On Wednesday, a ‘Sugbo Kontra Droga’ awarding ceremony will be held recognizing LGUs who have top performances in terms of anti-drug council including police stations in Cebu province.
