Cebu under storm signal no. 1

Heavy rains spawned by Tropical Depression “Marce” are expected in Cebu which is now placed under Storm Signal Number 1.

Vhan Singson, weather specialist of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services (Pagasa) based on Mactan Island, Cebu, urged the public especially those living in flood-prone areas to be vigilant as Marce was expected to make a landfall in Surigao on Thursday.

Marce will mostly be felt in southern Cebu, Singson said.

Storm Signal Number 1 is also hoisted over Southern Leyte, Bohol, Siquijor, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Surigao Del Norte including Siargao Island, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin.

Marce is the first tropical cyclone to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in November.

As of 6 a.m on Thursday, Marce was spotted 240 km of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with 45 km per hour of maximum sustained winds, 55 km per hour gustiness and moving west north west at 17 kilometers per hour. Marce is expected to exit PAR on Monday.
