A militant group is holding a rally in downtown Cebu City to denounce the sneaky burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) from 9 a.m. to noon today.

The Anakbayan Cebu, a militant group whose members are mostly students, are enjoining student organizations, religious organizations, artists and others to unite and express their disgust at the burial of the former president at LNMB that surprised everyone last Nov. 18.

“Let us not allow any efforts to twist our history and the role of Ferdinand Marcos in shaping our socio-political and economic decline as a society,” read a post by the Anakbayan Cebu last Monday.

The rally is in line with the National Day of Protest Against Marcos’ Hero’s Burial. For their part, Police Regional Office director Chief Supt. Noli Taliño said he has ordered his men, particularly the Regional Public Safety Battalion, to ensure peace and order during the rally.

“We will observe maximum tolerance towards the protesters. (In turn) we (also) urge them (the protesters) to maintain peace during the rally,” Taliño said.

The police chief also said that they have not monitored any security threats that might endanger the protesters.
