TEMPTING FATE
They never learn.
With the weather bureau raising storm signal no. 1 over northern Cebu on Thursday and the Philippine Coast Guard Cebu warning sea vessels not to sail, a motor banca filled with passengers still put out to sea to ferry passengers to a neighboring island. This despite the Coast Guard grounding ships at Cebu ports because of the raising of the storm signal, stranding hundreds.
Was it greed that prompted the banca operator to ferry passengers from the northern Cebu island to a port in the mainland despite the raising of the storm signal in Cebu, disregarding the safety of the banca’s crew and passengers?
When will these people learn that it’s better to be safe than sorry later?
PUZZLED OVER A POLICE STATION’S PHONE
Is this intentional or just Siloy’s imagination? This dear black bird is scratching its head, wondering and asking itself — what’s going on? The subject of this dear bird’s puzzlement is the status of the telephone on this police station in a town in province. Every time an incident in the police station’s area happens, Siloy often would get the buzzing sound of a busy signal on the station’s telephone, and the police officers could only be contacted several hours later. This did not only happen once, but Siloy could say several times. Siloy could only scratch its head again and ask this question: would an incident near the police station cause the station’s phone to have a technical problem?
UNLOCKED CAB DOORS
Taxi drivers should make it a habit to automatically lock their doors when passengers are already inside their cabs. This is for safety’s sake, especially during the Christmas season when people carry luggage or things they shop, or just to avoid embarrassment from a fellow passenger who would rush to open a cab’s door stopping near the sidewalk, perhaps due to traffic, and be embarrassed to find another passenger inside. What if it was a thief who would open the door and grab the things placed at the back of the cab or the passenger is holding?
