HEALTH Secretary Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial said the government’s doctors and medical staffers remain committed to providing quality health care to poor people despite the challenges in resources and controversies confronting them.
“I know that a lot of you are subject to a lot of heartaches and stresses because of working in government,” a teary-eyed Ubial said in her speech at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).
The health secretary was in Cebu City yesterday to attend the inauguration of the second Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Neurosurgical Ward.
Ubial said she wanted to shake hands with doctors and other health professionals in government since she knows how hard it is working to provide quality health services for Filipno people.
“Working in government is a thankless job. You are 24/7 on call. It takes a lot of toll for your family, health, friends. I thank you for the hard work and dedication for this hospital,” she said.
“We will provide more resources to provide quality health care,” Ubial said, adding that President Duterte’s order is for the Department of Health (DOH) to prioritize the indigent patients.
Ubial said at least one health worker should be assigned to every barangay or village in the country. The Cath Laboratory is the second to open at the VSMMC in a decade.
Dr. Gerardo Aquino, medical director of VSMMC, said the DOH allocated P60 million to build the facility.
