THE Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) bested all other police offices in the regional campaign against illegal drugs.

Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), commended the 56 police officers led by its director, Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas.

They were given the Medalya ng Kasanayan (PNP Efficiency Medals) which was awarded to them during the flag raising ceremony at the PRO-7 quadrangle yesterday morning.

MCPO also received a cash incentive of P10,000 from PRO-7.

Senior Insp. Narciso Abapo of Mandaue City also received a Medalya ng Kagalingan (PNP Medal of Merit) for killing a suspected drug peddler who allegedly engaged the operatives in a shootout during an operation in Barangay Subangdaku last July 21.

MCPO received a rating of 93.78 percent in the anti-drug campaign from July 1 to Oct. 20, based on the report of the PRO-7’s Oversight Committee on Illegal Drugs.

“They (MCPO) have the most number of arrests and surrenderers involving high-value targets,” Taliño said in an interview.
He encouraged all policemen to do more in the campaign against illegal drugs.

“We’re doing okay but I want them to double or triple their efforts so we could get rid of illegal drugs in the whole region within six months or by the end of the year,” Taliño said.

He ordered all city and provincial police directors in Central Visayas to relieve police station chiefs who are not performing well in the anti-illegal drugs campaign.

“If they (city and provincial police directors) won’t be able to perform well, I will also relieve them from their posts,” Taliño said.

Based on the data of PRO-7, MCPO convinced 3,696 drug dependents to surrender.

At least 20 drug suspects were arrested while 17 were killed in police operations.

A total of 335 drug cases were filed against drugs suspects since July 1.
